Abstract

The degradation of the character of students is one issue that attracts attention. Various efforts have been made to solve these problems, one of which is through the use of local wisdom to build the positive character of students. This study aims to determine the internalization of Bugis local wisdom malebbi warekkadana makkiade ampena and the various characters formed. This study uses a qualitative approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews using interview guidelines. Subjects were selected by purposive sampling comprising students from the Faculty of Sharia and Islamic Law, Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business, Faculty of Ushuludin, Adab, and Da’wah, Faculty of Tarbiyah, and the Postgraduate Program of the State Islamic Institute (IAIN) Parepare. Data analysis is done by preparing the data, organizing it, and reducing it into several themes to be presented. The results show that internalizing the local wisdom of malebbi warekkadana makkiade ampena goes through 3 stages, namely: introduction, habituation, and value actualization. The characters formed are polite, polite, tolerant, disciplined, socially caring, and religious. It can be concluded that it is necessary to revitalize local wisdom as capital in building positive character through campus cultural engineering.
